My favorite run anywhere in the world? It was when I lived in Greece. Because I was the only jogger on this small island, there was inebitably someone who would call out, "Why are you running?", "Isn't that bad for your health?", or "Don't you want to stop for a shot of ouzo?" It was quite funny.

Haruki Murakami quoted in Runners World. November 2005.

to create the ship,
it is not to weave the fabrics,
to forge the nails,
to read the stars,
but to instead give a taste for the sea.

Antoine de Saint Exupery. DESSINE-MOI UN BEATEAU [MAKE ME A BOAT].

and a more prosasic translation:

If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the men to gather wood, divide the wood, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.
